Abstract

The importance of information literacy education lies in its potential to encourage a deep, rather than surface learning, and in its potential to transform dependent learners into independent, self-directed, lifelong learners. An information literate person can easily identify, find, evaluate, apply, and acknowledge the information in the right manner. This study intends to measure information literacy skills among the Masters students of social sciences of Mizoram University and Tezpur University in India.  We use a kind of a qualitative study using semi-structured questionnaire and conducted this study with a standard set of questions. These questions range from the normal elementary level ones to digital literacy. The results are presented and widely discussed which will help in designing future information systems.
